Eligibility:
All students participating in interscholastic sports (Cross Country, Soccer, Basketball, Cheerleading, Wrestling,
Volleyball, and Track & Field) must meet weekly eligibility requirements. A student will be declared ineligible if:
- He/she has 2 or more Ds in academic classes.
- He/she has 1 or more Fs in academic classes.
- He/she is on social probation*.
- He/she receives an unsatisfactory behavior report from teacher(s).
If a student is declared ineligible, the following action will take place:
Students will be ineligible from Monday - Sunday of that week. They will be re-evaluated
the following Monday for the next week’s participation.
*Social probation is defined in the 2016-2017 Discipline Policy as 5 school days of
restriction from any school-related activity for every day of out of school suspension.
Sportsmanship:
Participation in sports, and any other activity at Beach Park Middle School, is not only a privilege, but also an extension of the classroom. We want our students to learn how to work as individuals and as a team. We also want students to learn how to be respectful citizens in their community, even when facing challenging circumstances.
It is our job as parents, coaches, athletic directors, and administrative staff to hold our students to a high level of sportsmanship and citizenship. Students and parents agree to this code of conduct by signing up for this extra-curricular activity.
To that end, we will be taking strong action for any student who violates the rules of sportsmanship. Any student who receives a technical foul or red card for conduct or sportsmanship issues will be removed from the game/match and serve an additional one (1) game suspension. Any student involved in taunting, or verbally harassing an opponent, or using profanity on the court/field will be removed from the game and serve an additional one (1) game suspension. If a
student is involved in a fight, that student will be removed from the team. When physically confronted by another team’s player, we expect our student to simply walk away from the confrontation.
Our coaches are expected to model the same sportsmanship characteristics, and will be held to the same policy as their team.
We want our students to enjoy the activities in which they participate. However we feel that it is more important that our students learn the value of good sportsmanship and fair-play, even when faced with difficult situations.
Additional Guidelines:
Student-athletes are expected to be leaders – positive examples for their peers – in the classroom. To that end, we hold student-athletes to a higher standard as they are representatives for their team, their grade, and their school.
Student-athletes who make poor choices and a receive detention may not skip serving that detention due to a practice or a game.
If a detention is skipped by a student-athlete, that student will not participate in the first half of the next game.
If it occurs again, the student will not dress/participate in the entire next game.
In the event that a student-athlete receives an In-School Suspension (ISS), the student will not be allowed dress/participate in the next game.
